The informality of southwestern bedding makes it an excellent choice for guest rooms and children's rooms. Many students take their bedding with them when they leave home for the first time because it provides the much needed comforts of home when they are sleeping in a strange place.

There are styles and designs of this bedding dating back to the early 1800s'. Many people remember some point in their childhood when they used a Southwest blanket on a trip or in their room. The colors of the bedding have not changed in most cases and continues to incorporate the many rich earthen tones and accents that made the bedding famous. When a person uses this bedding, they feel warm and secure as they wrap in its warmth.

The modern bedding has changed little from the traditional bedding. The main difference is found in the weave of the fabric. Traditionally, southwestern bed sets was made using an open weave fabric that consisted of thread and yarn. Now the bedding is made from a much tighter weave that is dyed to emulate the open weave. The primitive geometric designs and shapes remain on the modern bedding and are found in each piece of the bedding.

This bedding is very durable and is excellent when used in children's rooms. The coverlet is reinforced with a stronger thread than many other types of bedding which allows it to withstand more abuse than many types of bedding. When used in a themed decor, the bedding provides elements of color without being overpowering.

The bedding is normally not made in the traditional quilting of most manufactured bedding. There is a thinner layer of batting used in the coverlet that provides the same level of warmth in a more lightweight cover. In areas where there is severe cold, the bedding is often made in a flannel or warmer fabric that provides an extra level of comfort to the user.

The geometric designs in the bedding are replicas of traditional designs of the Southwest. However, the stories that go with those designs is often not shared with the purchaser of the bedding. When the bedding is used for storytelling, a person often will find that there are many stories alive within the bedding that provide the impetus for wonderful bonding time with children.

In many cases you will find that this bedding has been pre-treated and is stain and wear resistant. The manufacturers and designers have created this type of bedding for multiple uses and for function. Many people take their bedding camping and on trips because it provides warmth, is lightweight, and reminds them of home.

This bedding provides a person with a wonderful and vibrant set that is stylish enough to use in a room on a daily basis. It is durable, warm, and will retain it's beauty for several years. When used in a guest room, it provides an enticing welcome to a tired arrival.
